What does “horns down” mean?+
It’s the “hook ’em horns” 🤘 hand sign flipped upside down — index and pinky extended, pointing at the ground. Rival fans flash it to mock the Texas Longhorns, and it spread into a general college-football taunt.
Where did the horns-down gesture come from?+
The original “hook ’em” sign dates to 1955 at the University of Texas, created by cheerleader Harley Clark. Rival schools — especially Oklahoma — answered by simply turning it over, and horns down has trolled Longhorn fans ever since.
