These terms cover your use of EmojiDB (emojidb.cc). By using the site you agree to them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive — if anything here is unclear, ask us at [email protected].

Using the site

EmojiDB is free. There is no account to create, nothing to pay for, and no limit on how many emoji you copy. You may use anything you copy from this site for personal or commercial purposes — in a message, a bio, a product, a video, a book — without asking us and without crediting us.

What is ours, and what is not

This distinction matters more here than on most sites, so it is worth being precise:

• The emoji and symbols themselves are not ours. They are characters in the Unicode Standard — public technical infrastructure, the same as the letter A. Nobody can own them and we make no claim to them. Their names, categories and keywords come from the Unicode CLDR, packaged by the emojibase project.
• The pictures you see are your device's. We embed no vendor artwork. Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung each own the drawings in their own fonts, and what you see is whichever of those your device has installed.
• Kaomoji and text combos are a folk form. Faces like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ have been passed around the internet for decades and belong to no one. Our contribution is the collecting, sorting and labelling of them.
• The site itself is ours. The written explanations, the categorisation, the page designs and the code are our work. Copy the emoji freely; please do not republish the site's prose or scrape it wholesale to rebuild the database elsewhere.

Fair use of the site

Automated access that degrades the site for other people is not permitted — bulk crawling at a rate a person could not produce, or systematically downloading every page to reproduce the database. Ordinary search-engine crawling is welcome, and everything here is static, so a normal crawl costs us nothing. If you want the underlying data, take it from emojibase and the Unicode CLDR directly — that is where we got it, and it is a better source than scraping our HTML.

Accuracy and warranty

We publish 3,953 glyphs with codepoints, shortcodes, version history and written descriptions, and we check them against the Unicode data rather than writing them from memory. Even so, the site is provided as is. We do not warrant that every entry is free of error, that any particular emoji will render on any particular device, or that the site will be available without interruption. Emoji meanings also drift with usage; our descriptions record how a character is generally used, not a ruling on what it must mean.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited.

Links to other sites

We link out to Unicode, emojibase, Astro and Cloudflare among others. Those sites have their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content.

Privacy

What the site does and does not collect is set out separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms — most likely because the site gains a feature that needs describing. The date at the top always reflects the current version, and material changes will be summarised here rather than slipped in quietly.
